Zaba QR privacy
Zaba QR Privacy Policy
What happens to your information when you use the app.
The short version
Zaba QR has no accounts and does not send your scans, your history or the codes you create to Zaba Technology. The app shows ads, and Google collects some device and usage data to provide those ads and to run the scanning technology. The details are below.
Who publishes this app
Zaba QR is published by Zaba Technology, based in Kampala, Uganda. "We" and "us" in this policy mean Zaba Technology.
Information the app handles
| Information | What happens to it |
|---|---|
| Camera picture | Processed on your phone while the Scan screen is open. Not saved, and not sent to us. |
| A photo you choose to scan | You pick it using your phone's own picker. The app reads only that photo and does not keep a copy. |
| Codes you scan or create | Saved in a history on your phone unless you turn off Keep history. Not sent to us. |
| App settings | Your preferences, such as your theme and scan settings, are saved on your phone. |
| Device, usage and advertising data | Collected by Google components in the app, as described under Advertising and Scanning technology. |
Information you choose to provide
Anything you type into the Create screen is used to make your code and is saved in your on-device history. This can include sensitive items such as Wi-Fi passwords, so keep this in mind if others use your phone.
If you email us for support, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. Please do not send passwords, PINs or payment details.
Permissions
- Camera
- Reads codes while the Scan screen is open. You can decline and still scan from photos and create codes.
- Storage (Android 10 and older only)
- Saves a code image when you tap Save to gallery. Newer Android versions do not need this permission.
- Internet and network state
- Used by Google's ad and scanning components. The app's own features do not need a connection.
- Advertising ID and Android ad services
- Let the Google Mobile Ads SDK read your advertising ID and use Android's ad topics and attribution features.
- Wake lock and foreground service
- Added by Google's ad components and a system library they rely on, so short background tasks can finish. The app's own features do not use them.
If you tap Save to gallery, the code image is saved to your phone's gallery. On Android 10 and older, your phone asks for storage permission the first time you do this.
How information is used
- Your camera, photos and history are used to read, create and show codes on your phone.
- Google uses advertising data to provide ads and for analytics and fraud prevention.
- Google uses ML Kit data for diagnostics and usage analytics.
- We use support emails to reply to you.
Sharing and links
We do not run a server for this app, and we do not receive or sell your scans, history or created codes. The data collected by Google components goes to Google, as described below.
Zaba QR never opens anything by itself. When you tap an action such as Open link, Connect or Search the web, your phone hands that information to the relevant app, such as your browser, and that app's own privacy policy then applies. Link warnings are worked out on your phone without contacting any service.
Third-party services
| Service | Purpose | More information |
|---|---|---|
| Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) | Showing ads and asking for ad consent | Google's data disclosure |
| Google ML Kit barcode scanning | Reading codes on your phone | Google's data disclosure |
The app does not include any separate analytics or crash-reporting service of ours.
Advertising
Zaba QR shows banner ads from Google AdMob on the History and Result screens. According to Google, the Google Mobile Ads SDK automatically collects and shares the following for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention, encrypted in transit:
- Your IP address, which may be used to estimate your general location.
- How you interact with the app and with ads, such as app launches, taps and video views.
- Diagnostic information, such as app launch time, hang rate and energy use.
- Device identifiers, such as your Android advertising ID and app set ID, and identifiers related to accounts signed in on your device, where applicable.
If you are in a region where consent is required, such as the European Economic Area or the UK, the app asks for your choice before ads load. You can change it at any time under Ad privacy choices in Settings. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your Android settings.
Read how Google uses this data.
Scanning technology
Code reading uses Google ML Kit. According to Google, ML Kit collects the following for diagnostics and usage analytics, encrypts it in transit and does not transfer it to third parties:
- Device information, such as manufacturer, model, operating system version and available hardware accelerators.
- App information, such as package name and version.
- Identifiers specific to each installation, which are not intended to identify you or your device.
- Performance metrics, feature settings such as image format and resolution, event types and error codes.
Keeping and deleting information
- You can delete single history items or clear everything in the History tab.
- You can stop saving new items by turning off Keep history in Settings.
- Uninstalling the app deletes your history and settings.
- Zaba QR has no accounts, so there is no account to delete.
- Google keeps the data it collects according to its own policies.
- We keep support emails only for as long as we need them to help you and to keep necessary records.
Security
History stays in the app's private storage on your phone and is not included in Android cloud backups. The app does not add its own encryption to it, so anyone who can use your unlocked phone may be able to see it. According to Google, the data described above is encrypted in transit. No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Children
Zaba QR is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13.
International processing
Google may process the data it collects in countries other than your own. Support emails may also pass through email services in other countries.
Your choices and rights
- You can decline or remove camera access in your Android settings and still scan from photos and create codes.
- You can manage your history as described above.
- Where consent applies, you can change your ad choices under Ad privacy choices in Settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, such as asking to see, correct or delete it. We do not hold your scans or history, but contact us if you have a request and we will help where we can.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices change, we will update this policy and the date at the top.
